 Our Adoptable Pet List

SCMR POLICIES & FORMS

Adopt a Pet   Foster a Pet     Surrender a Pet

To be considered to adopt one of our babies, please fill out an APPLICATION. A PDF version of the application is also available for download. Adopting any animal takes a lot of commitment. We require an application, reference check, home visit, and adoption donations normally averaging between $150 and $250, depending upon the age of the animal and the medical expenses. Each dog has had all vaccinations, been dewormed, heartworm tested (and treated if necessary), dental (if needed), spay/neuter, and any other medical attention he/she needs. The adoption fee helps recover a PORTION of the money spent on each rescued animal. We are committed to try to find the best home possible for each of our little ones so that they don't end up in a similar situation down the road. Out-of-state adoptions are possible; however, the approved adoptive home is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to pick up their new little one. The new owner is required to help with the transportation of the dog though, as we will not ship them. Additionally all dogs requiring transportation must have a crate or seatbelt harness.

We need COMPLETED applications, we cannot start the adoption approval process unless we have a fully completed application.

If you do not supply complete information on your APPLICATION, we do not have time to track it all down. Vet contact information on your application is very important, please include it.

PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE BIO OF ANY DOG IN WHICH YOU ARE INTERESTED SINCE THERE MAY BE ADOPTION RESTRICTIONS. WE PREFER TO ADOPT TO HOMES WITH CHILDREN ABOVE THE AGE OF 10 YEARS. EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE DEPENDING UPON THE ANIMAL AND HOW FAR THE POTENTIAL FAMILY IS LOCATED FROM THE FOSTER HOME.

Homes with fenced yards are given preference to those without (all other things being equal). Electric Fences*, however, in our opinion are not considered a safe method of containment. Large aggressive dogs or predatory animals can easily get in to the yard to hurt, fight even injure dogs confined with this type of fence. In addition to injury, dogs are more accessible to thieves. *To clarify, "Electric Fencing" is the electronic, wireless underground fence that keep dogs in but will not keep other dogs out.

Please understand that this is a volunteer effort and we all work full time in addition to doing rescue. Any help in speeding up the adoption process is appreciated. We receive an average of over 2000 HITS A DAY and many emails! We will get back to you as soon as possible. ** NOTE** We do NOT encourage giving pets as GIFTS. However, you may pay the adoption fee as a 'gift' for your special someone, but we will require an adoption application to be completed by the adopter (recipient of your 'gift'). Our dogs come to us from various sources including shelters. We do not always know the full history of the dog, some have come from abusive or neglectful situations. We will share as much information on the dogs as we can with 'approved prospective homes'. Our dogs live in foster homes in several states including TX, AL, TN, GA, OH, NC, FL, AR, NJ, and VA. We are always in need of great foster homes. We are sorry, but there is no "shelter" available for you to visit.

When an application is approved, the home check goes well, and all vet references and application information checks out, a signed and notarized contract is required to finalize the adoption process. MS Word and PDF versions of our Adoption Contract are available for download.

Can't adopt? Consider being a FOSTER PARENT. All foster homes undergo the same screening that an adoptive home will. You must be committed to the potential lifetime care of the animals and be responsible for helping select and qualify their forever homes. IF YOU CAN FOSTER, please fill out a FOSTER APPLICATION. Word and PDF versions of the foster application are now available. A foster contract is also required once you are approved to foster our dogs. You may view the contract in Word format or PDF format.

Be sure to check out our "Foster Info" page for more information about fostering a rescued dog.
